The Classic Black iPad DODOcase is a similar design to our traditional DODOcase inspired by the artist journals of years gone by - but made with a more durable and slimmer profile polymer tray, 27% thinner than our old tray.

Is the case handmade in the USA?
Yes. Every DODOcase is handcrafted in our San Francisco workshop using traditional bookbinding techniques. The outer shell is hand-wrapped and the spine is hand-sewn, just as it has been since 2010.
What material is the exterior made from?
The Classic Black uses our signature bookbound fabric — the same material used in hardcover book production. It's durable, lightweight, and develops a natural patina with use.
Does it protect the screen?
Yes. The case closes completely and holds shut with a magnetic closure, keeping your screen fully protected when not in use.

can you fold the front cover back, behind the iPad, while reading or using the iPad?
Hello. Yes, you can fold our cases back while reading/using your ipad. Because our cases are book-style, the spine does create a small amount of space when folded back so it is not 100% flush. We also don't recommend forcing it back too hard as the cover "hinges" could break. But many of our customers do fold them back like you described.

What do you do with the pen loop if you don't have/use an Apple Pencil? (Is it possible to order the case without the pen loop?)
Hello. We do add a pen loop on all of our cases that are compatible with the Apple Pencil but if you email thenest@dodocase.com after you place your order you can request we not include it.
Will the apple pencil charge when stored in the loop on the side?
Hello. Yes, the elastic pen loops still allow the Apple Pencil to connect magnetically and charge.
Is this case made of genuine leather?
What are the stand positions? What does each look like?
Hello. Our Classic Black cases are wrapped in library grade linen (like a hard bound book). There is also a protective coating as well. We do have genuine leather cases which you can find here:
You can also open Settings, tap General, then tap About. Look for the model number in the top section. If the number you see has a slash "/", that's the part number (for example, MY3K2LL/A). Tap the part number to reveal the model number, which has a letter followed by four numbers and no slash (for example, A2342).

This is my second DODOcase purchase. My first order was back in 2017 for my Apple iPad Pro 11” (2nd generation). That case lasted for years with only minor wear—some fading on the monogram (quick tip: a little clear nail polish helps preserve the lettering), slight loosening of the strap, and a bit of wear along the book‑style spine. Its durability is exactly why I’ve stayed a loyal customer. I truly love the aesthetic and craftsmanship of these cases.
I reordered the same style for the same iPad Pro I still use, and I’m thrilled to have a fresh one. The only difference is that this new version is solid black, whereas my original had a leather trim along the spine and inside the cover, which added a touch of detail and professionalism that I really loved. Even so, I’m completely satisfied with my purchase and will definitely return for future orders.
The 1st case I ordered came out broken - the pencil strap was broken. I contacted DodoCase and a new item got sent to me immediately. This one is in great condition.
The item is gorgeous, I love the way the waves look. I'm very happy with my purchase.
Light weight, good looking, functional case. Perfect for work as well as home. All buttons and ports easily accessible. I’ve dropped my iPad a couple of times on a tile floor….the iPad and case are both fine.
The case looks great and feels premium, but the plastic tray is the weak point. I’ve owned three (two iPad Air, one iPad Mini) and the tray cracked on all of them. DodoCase replaced the first two within the one-year warranty, but they broke again afterward. For the price, it’s frustrating to have to fix it myself by swapping in a TPU shell with 3M tape, which actually works better. I wish they would just use TPU or a magnetic tray so the case would last as long as its beautiful cover.
I have used my iPad for pastoral and leadership work in the church for the last 15 years. The Dodocase gives a sense of dignity to my work but allows me the flexibility found in an iPad. Love my Dodocase!

Best and most good looking cover in the world, I think this would be my forth by now, I used these for the past 12 years, for me worth it to order it in the US, we don’t have this in Europe.
Like the product, however, they do not hold up. This is the 3rd iPad Pro case that we have purchase and the plastic part has broken off and the on and off does not work after a period of time.
They don't back up the product after a period of time.
One of the only classy, non-cheesy iPad cases out there. I had the first gen case with bamboo on the inside that I'm still using - though the bamboo did crack in one place, I was able to glue it back with wood glue.
The new version with plastic frame on the inside I'm sure is more functional but a little bit of the charm of the original case has been lost to practicality. Glad that the issue with the sticky corners coming loose was solved however.
