Product - DODOcase for iPad
Are any of your DODOcases vegan?
The only DODOcases that is made with leather (bonded leather) is the Scholar Collection. Otherwise, the Durables collection as well does use genuine leather pockets and genuine leather accents.
What is the best way to clean my DODOcase in the event that it becomes dirty?
The best way to keep your DODOcase clean is to treat it with care and lots of love, but in the event that it does become dirty with stains or smudges, there are a few techniques that may help you to clean it. However, we here at DODOcase use many different bookcloths, which all require different cleaning methods. Unfortunately, not all smudges or stains can be removed --- try to think of them as added character. And always remember: The DODOcase is not waterproof.
Please note: We can’t guarantee any of these cleaning methods when used by an unsupervised non-bookbinder. Clean at your own risk!
1. Black Morocco - Classic DODOcase/HARDcover
Our standard Classic cases are made with black Morocco cloth on the outside and coated bookcloth on the inside. Black Morocco is our most versatile, durable, and cleanable material. Most smudges can be removed from the Black Morocco cloth using an art gum or rubber cement eraser. If the eraser fails, try a damp (not wet) cloth. Pro tip: when we say “damp,” think slightly humid. Water can severely warp the bookboard beneath the fabric.
If the interior of a Classic case becomes dirty, clean it with an eraser. Avoid getting even a small amount of water on the joint between the colored liner and the Black Morocco cloth.
2. Solid Cases: Granite, Ocean, Cardinal, Sand, Meadow, Tahoe, Fog
Our Solid cases (which are all lined with a neutral khaki coated bookcloth), can be gently cleaned with an eraser, but too-vigorous rubbing can sometimes remove pigment from the cover. Use caution when cleaning these cases. If your eraser-cleaning fails, you may try a damp (not wet) cloth.
3. Two-Tone Cases: Spring/Summer 2012 and Fall/Winter 2012
Watch out folks! No amount of moisture should be used on uncoated bookcloth, ever. All of the two-tone cases employ uncoated cloth: Spring/Summer 2012 (Granite/Poppy, Tahoe/Sunrise, Meadow/Lake, and Sand/Earth) have uncoated cloth on the spines and liners, and Fall/Winter 2012 (The Albert, The Emily, and the Pablo) have uncoated cloth on the exterior panels. They also have screenprinted patterns. Our inks are water-based (eco-friendly and non-toxic!), and are therefore no match for moisture.
Uncoated bookcloth lacks the protective acrylic coating of coated bookcloth, and also tends to be backed with paper, which makes it stronger at points of motion (such as the spine). However, when exposed to moisture, the cloth can separate from its paper backing, causing bubbling and fraying. Please protect your two-tone case from water.
These cases can be cleaned by gentle rubbing with an art gum eraser.
4. Build-a-DODO/Custom cases:
Our customizer features a panoply of different bookcloths, including all of the abovementioned types. Coated, uncoated, paper-backed, bonded leather, printed… you name it. Here is a quick breakdown of the major fabric types:
- Patterned cloths: can be cleaned with an eraser. Please protect your patterned case from moisture at all times! The ink is water-based (eco-friendly and non-toxic!), and therefore reacts to moisture.
- Black Morocco and bonded leather: can be cleaned with an eraser and/or a damp (not wet!) cloth.
- Solid-colored coated bookcloths (all Solid colors except “Natural”): can be cleaned with an eraser and/or a damp (not wet!) cloth, but beware of over-vigorous cleaning: the pigment in the cloth may wear away.
- Uncoated bookcloth (“Natural”): Can be cleaned by gentle rubbing with an eraser. Do not clean with a damp cloth! Protect this cloth from moisture at all times.
Is the leather you use to build the DODOcase real genuine leather?
We use a bonded leather. 70% of the bonded leather content is leather and 100% of that is from cowhide fibers. The remaining 30% is non-leather substances principally the natural latex as well as tanning oils, vegetable tannins, dyes and leather finishes. Our Scholars Collection uses bonded leather. There is also the option to add bonded leather to your customized "build-a-DODO" case.
Does the DODOcase for iPad 2/3, fit the 4th Generation iPad?
Yes, all our products previously listed as compatible for iPad 2/3 are compatible with the 4th Generation iPad launched in November of 2012.
On the DODOcase for iPad mini and iPad 4th Generation, why is the charging cut out larger than the lightning charging cable?
Since many of our customers use Apple adaptors for HDMI, SD Cards and the 30 pin to Lightning adapter, we leave the cut out large enough to allow the use of adaptors.
Does the case invoke the auto on/off function?
Yes, all the DODOcase hardcover cases for iPads are made with magnets to invoke all the auto on/off function.
My DODOcase is cracked. What can I do?
Unfortunately we discontinued the bamboo cases over 3 years ago. We were still trying to replace any cracked case that we had inventory for but we have run out of all bamboo trays.
We do offer a one year warranty on all DODOcase products but those would have the new polymer trays now.
Does the DODOcase support the rear facing camera?
Yes, all our cases support both the rear facing and forward facing cameras. The DODOcase will allow you to use all the camera and video features of your new iPad without removal from the case. A hole is created and finished with a rubber seal on the back cover of the DODOcase. No hole is created in the front cover so you'll use the camera with your case open.
Does the DODOcase offer an angled typing mode?
Yes, you may flip the cover open entirely to type on your iPad. The depth of the spine will create a typing angle similar to that of Apple's wireless keyboard.
Does the DODOcase for iPads negatively effect speaker performance?
No, the polymer trays are designed to channel audio from the iPad speakers. It does not effect audio levels at all.
Can I personalize the DODOcase?
We offer two personalization locations on the case (lower right front cover, and upper middle front cover). We offer one font sizes 24 pt. We offer two colors (black and gold).
We utilize a traditional book binding technique called foil stamping to personalize each case. Small metal characters are heated and pressed through a colored ink foil to deboss the appropriate letters on your case.
You can add personalization to most DODOcases during the check out process.
Can I customize the DODOcase for my company?
Yes, we have a wealth of customization capabilities. Please visit http://www.dodocase.com/pages/corporate-orders for more information.
Can I flip the cover open to watch videos?
Yes, you can flip the DODOcase completely open to watch videos. The DODOcase stands best on textured surfaces and works very well on uneven surfaces.
PRO TIP: Should you find yourself trying to watch video on a super slick surface; pull the elastic strap under the center of the back cover (just the very tip of it) and it will create friction allowing you to stand the case up on any surface.
Can you show me how the iPad 2 fits into the DODOcase in a video?
DODOcase iPad 2 quick fit video from DODOcase on Vimeo.
Is there supposed to be a slight gap between the left edge of the front cover and the top surface of the iPad2 in the DODOcase for iPad2?
Note: The pictures in this example show a DODOcase for iPad2, but the same principle also applies to the DODOcase for gen1 iPad.
Yes, this gap is intended in the design of the DODOcase for iPad. The spine on the DODOcase for iPad will wear in over time, causing the front cover to settle, limiting the gap between the left edge of the front cover and the top surface of the iPad itself. When you get a brand new hard cover book, the joint between the spine and the front cover will be very stiff at first. As the book is used over time, this joint will loosen up. The same principle applies to the DODOcase for iPad . To account for this process, the case has been specifically designed to have a slight gap between the left edge of the front cover and the top surface of the iPad, going along the spine. This gap gives room for the front cover to settle over time. Over the course of time and with continued use, the joint between the spine and the front cover will loosen up, causing the left edge of the front cover to lower itself closer to the top surface of the iPad and the bamboo tray. These two pictures demonstrate how this gap is limited over time and use. The first picture shows a new DODOcase for iPad2, and the second picture shows a DODOcase for iPad2 that has been worn in.

Image 2: https://cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/2660/3156/files/photo_12.jpg?v=1694207336
Another way to think of this process is by visualizing the three pieces of board that the cover is built with. At fist the boards that make up the front and back covers will sit directly on top of or on bottom of the spine. Over time they will move to lie on the side of the spine. This is a bit difficult to explain in words, so this diagram should better demonstrate this process:
Image 3: https://cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/2660/3156/files/photo_9.jpg?v=1694207353
How thick is the cover?
Approximately 3.5 millimeters. Similar to the cover of a hardback book.
I need replacement Corner Pads!
Unfortunately we have run out of all spare corner pads. We switched to polymer trays a couple of years back and were still supplying corner pads until we ran out of inventory last year.
Is it possible to eliminate the embossed DODOcase logo on the rear or make it half the size but retain the logo on the interior?
No, we do not offer the DODOcase without an embossed logo on the back.
When did DODOcase for iPad go into production?
April 4, 2010 When the iPad launched, we were there!
The bamboo wood cracked on my case. Can I fix it with glue?
Yes, any standard super glue will work well with the bamboo.
Is customization available for the DODOcase?
Yes, we do now offer customization of the DODOcase. Working in a traditional book bindery we have the ability to emboss logos and impress typeset into the exterior of the case. Please email henry (at) dodocase.com for details
Is the DODOcase an 'impact' case?
No, the DODOcase is not designed to survive major abuse (big drops, crushing, etc). If you are looking for a tough case, we suggest you look elsewhere. That said, the DODOcase is perfect for protecting your iPad in your bag and from scratches, etc. It will provide some protection, of course, but we want you to treat your DODO well to protect from extinction.
How thick is the cover?
Approximately 3.5 millimeters. Similar to the cover of a hardback book.
What are the case dimensions for the DODOcase for iPad?
10 x 8 x 1
Does the cover of the DODOcase flip over?
Yes, but the DODOcase has a 1 inch spine so it doesn't fold flat. The spine creates a great angle for typing on your lap. The cover feels like a book so is comfortable when it is flipped over.
Is the DODOcase for iPad available in multiple colors?
Yes, the DODOcase for iPad is available in many colors. Please see www.dodocase.com for current selections.
Can the DODOcase be used as a stand for my iPad?
Yes, but it will depend on the surface you are working on. The DODOcase may not stand up on a highly polished or slick surface like glass. We have tested on most common surfaces and if you fold the DODOcase cover at the right angle your iPad will stand up nicely at about a 60-70 degree angle.
Product - HARDcover for Nexus 7 2012 & Nexus 7 2013
Do the DODOcase iPad covers have a 'smart case' auto wake/sleep feature?
Yes, we embed a magnets in most of our DODOcase iPad covers that will automatically wake and sleep the device. The only exceptions are the Keyboard Compatible Cases and the Smart Keyboard Folio covers for the Pro 11 and Pro 12.9 series.
What is the life expectancy of this case? Is that guaranteed?
The HARDcover will wear like any hardback book and should have a long life when treated well. This we guarantee. If you aren’t satisfied with the HARDcover, please let us know and we will do our best to make sure you are.
Can I prop the DODOcase iPad up to view the device hands free?
Yes, the DODOcase iPad can be flipped open and propped up. It is great for balancing the device on your stomach while watching your favorite movie. Or you fold it backwards and use the Multi Angle Hinge on the back panel to prop it into several horizontal angles.

How can I track my order?
We are currently working on improving our 'Order Look up'. Normal turn time for stock items is 7 to 12 days. Custom made cases turn time is 3-4 weeks. We are also revamping our manufacturing to speed these turn times up. If your order has shipped you should have received an email with the tracking number on it (please check your spam mail to make sure we are whitelisted). You can also always email us atthenest@dodocase.com to find a better order status.
If I place an order, how long will it take before it is shipped?
- If your order is a standard, in stock item, (not monogrammed or customized) most products take 7-12 business days to ship. (Please note specific products may have a longer lead time due to the technical processes required by our sewing team or bindery) **See product pages for accurate shipping times**
- If your order is a monogrammed item - it takes approximately 7-12 business days to ship. **See product pages for accurate shipping times
- If your order is a customized DODOcase - it takes approximately 3-4 weeks to handcraft and ship.
*Please note that during our busiest holiday season, these time frames may vary. These are approximate dates - which we strive to abide by.
If I select overnight shipping when I place my order, will that guarantee that I will receive my order the following day?
Selecting overnight shipping at checkout means that you will receive your order one business day after it ships. This does not mean that your order will ship the same day you place it. The same goes for 2-day shipping. Selecting 2-day shipping will not guarantee that your order will arrive 2 days after the order is placed, but it will arrive 2 days after the shipped date.
Please refer to the production timelines on each item to be sure you are estimating the correct delivery time.
The edge of the bamboo tray has come away from the cover during shipping. I can see the glue, what do I do?
We use a pressure sensitive contact adhesive to attach the bamboo tray to the cover and sometimes it may separate during shipping if there wasn't enough pressure applied during assembly. Our assembly team can get tired at the end of a long day of building. The very simple fix is to put the DODOcase flat on a table and apply even pressure all around the bamboo tray by pressing down with an open palm. This will activate the pressure sensitive adhesive and the tray will be firmly attached to the book cover.
Cover was damaged in shipping, has creases, etc. What can be done?
The exterior of the case is a combination of cardboard and cloth. Minor dings can often be minimized by manipulating the case with your hands. For example, just pinch the cover with your fingers and you can press the cover back into shape.
My card was charged, did the order ship?
Typically, we ship orders within 2 weeks of when we charge the order. We will email you as soon as your DODOcase leaves the nest to let you know.
Will you mark my package as a gift so that I can avoid duty/VAT/import costs in my country?
We are sorry, but we cannot mark your package as a gift since this is unlawful and could jeopardize DODOcase's ability to continue exporting products.
Will I be responsible for import duty, VAT, or other taxes outside of the US?
If we are able to compute the cost of duties and taxes in advance, those appear in our shopping cart and are listed as a tax on your shopping cart total. In some nations, the law requires that duties and taxes be paid by the consignee (recipient). When using our shopping cart, if you are shipping to one of those countries, the duty and tax charge will not appear and you may be responsible for duty and/or tax payments upon receipt of your order. Please note that the majority of these special circumstance countries are outside of the Americas and the EU. If you paid duties and taxes through our shopping cart and later receive a bill for duties and taxes, please contact us so we can investigate and remedy the situation. All international orders are shipped via Fedex.

Product - The LeatherCraft Collection
What type of leather are you using on the Leather Craft Collection?
We use full grain leather, which is the highest quality leather available. It means that this leather comes from the top layer of the animal’s skin, without any low quality leftover leather parts. Full grain leather is one piece of solid leather—it’s not glued to another piece of leather or compiled from other scraps of leather.
There may be imperfections already present on full grain leather, which is a testament to its quality. These blemishes were already on the animal’s skin when it was cut. Full grain leather is also the most durable, which means it will age beautifully over time.
If you have any questions about our leather products, reach out to us at thenest@dodocase.com!
How many cards can the Leather card & cash wallet hold?
The wallet can hold up to 3-4 cards in the center pocket along with some cash on the opposite side. It's dimensions are 3 7/8" x 2 3/4" x 3/16".
What devices will the Leather Portfolio accommodate to?
The Leather Portfolio will accommodate for the original iPad (iPad 1) as well as the iPad 2/3/4, iPad mini, DODOcase Folio for the iPad mini, Nexus 7, and the iPad Air. It was designed to fit the bare device itself as well as a notebook and/or other personal belongings. If you are curious about placing a DODOcase into the Leather Portfolio, it will not fit unless it is an iPad mini and/or a device that is generally smaller in size.
Here are the Leather Portfolio's features:
- Made with genuine American- made logger's leather
- Fits iPad Air, iPad 2/3/4, iPad mini, Nexus 7 and other smaller tablets
- Interior waxed canvas organization pocket (2 pen slots, 1 large pocket for phone, cards or cords)
- Antique brass snap closure (no metal on interior)
- Accommodates paper journal in addition to tablet
- Bevel cut out for easy access to tablet and accessories
- The dimensions for this product are: 11" x 9 1/8" x 3/4"
Can I monogram the Leather Portfolio?
Unfortunately, due to limitations with our machine, we are unable to personalize this specific product.
Why has the monogram pricing increased for the LeatherCraft collection?
Due to the set-up time to monogram this specific product line, we had to increase the cost of personalization. It is much more labor intensive to monogram the LeatherCraft collection verses a typical DODOcase. Let our support team know if you have any other questions on this at thenest(at)dodocase.com.
